For three days in October 2018, I was honored to spend time with some of the members of the VW-1 (Willy Victor) squadron as they held their biennial (once every two years) reunion. This year it was held in Reno, Nevada at Harrahs from October 16 – 18.

About VW-1
The VW-1 squadron had two main missions. Initially, their primary purpose was to serve as an airborne advanced warning group to perform reconnaissance for Navy ships. Later they were tasked with inventing and performing typhoon hunting tactics. VW-1, and other squadrons with similar missions, established the methods used to locate and evaluate major ocean-borne storms that could threaten military and civilian operations in a pre-satellite age.
